Letters to the Editor — Feb. 10, 2022

The Issue: The Post’s call for Gov. Hochul and Mayor Adams to lift the city and state’s mask mandates.

I’m an 85-year-old grandmother and raised four children in the New York school system (“Free the smiles,” Feb. 8). That was when our children received a wonderful education.

I drive by a playground now and see children outside with masks on and keeping their distance. It’s criminal.

It’s time to stop. Gov. Kathy Hochul says she needs more time to analyze the numbers. What she means is she’s waiting for the Department of Education to give her the green light.

Good luck to all you moms out there. I’m so proud of you. Just remember we are going to hurt those who hurt our children — at the polls.

Patricia Fletcher

The ongoing masking of the least vulnerable children is nothing short of systemic child abuse.

One day, these children will understand what was done to them and simultaneously realize the same people that harnessed them in masks also shackled them with massive debt through reckless spending. It won’t be pretty.

Gov. Hochul wants to lift mask mandates for businesses, but not for school kids.

Still, there is a problem with restaurants and bars, which must still check for vaccine cards.

It was said in the news media that 95 percent of New York adults have had at least one shot, so why is the burden still put on struggling businesses?

She should give serious consideration to lifting this mandate as well. Restaurants and bars have struggled for these past two years.

Isn’t it about time to let them do business as close to normally as possible without inspectors harassing people who are trying to make a living?

While Hochul plans to lift the mask mandate for businesses, the damage is irreparable to many individuals.

My elderly mother, who is a devotee of National Public Radio and Dr. Anthony Fauci, is still frightened.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, she has not attended church services, even though she’s fully vaccinated and boosted and has N95 masks. My message to Hochul is “too little, too late.”

It’s finally time for this mask-mandate hysteria in New York state to come to an end.

The governor continues to drag her political feet by insisting she is going by the metrics as to when she will lift the mask mandates for schools.

This entire political charade regarding masks has gone way too far, and now many people are totally fed up and want normalcy in their every-day lives restored after two years of being forced to wear masks.

The pandemic has caused so much disruption to everyone’s lives, and with vaccines, boosters and other medications, it is time to put COVID behind us, as it will most likely fade into an endemic stage, just like the yearly flu.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was maskless in Florida and came back positive.

The mask will not prevent COVID 100 percent of the time, but it will make you less likely to get it.

I’ve worn a mask since my quarantine ended, been exposed to COVID three times and each time tested negative.

I’m not in favor of wearing masks until the twelfth of never, but until this horrible disease is a lot more contained, I am.

The Post’s allegations of Democrats’ hypocrisy are utterly irrelevant to the issue.

Nat Weiner

The Bronx

We are inundated by statistics about COVID, but no one talks about the psychological damage done to all the children wearing masks, especially the preschoolers who have not yet developed their language skills.

Our elected officials have done a poor job of protecting our rights and upholding them.

Pat King, Merrick
