Yankees’ Joey Gallo remains a question mark after spotty spring
Here are some notable nuggets that happened during Yankees’ spring training action on Tuesday:
Ready for prime time?
Joey Gallo’s up-and-down spring ended with a pair of hits, as he finished the Grapefruit League schedule going 8-for-32 with a homer and 13 strikeouts. It’s anyone’s guess how he performs in The Bronx.
Sad ending
A day after being assigned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Manny Banuelos gave up three runs — including a homer to Miguel Cabrera — in 3 ¹/₃ innings to end an otherwise excellent spring as he looks to get back to the majors.
Caught my eye
Kyle Higashioka, Josh Donaldson, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Rizzo, Gleyber Torres, Isiah Kiner-Falefa all finished the spring with an OPS of at least .877. After the lineup struggled last spring, perhaps a positive sign for the regular season.
Wednesday’s schedule
The Yankees are scheduled to have a workout day at Yankee Stadium in preparation for Thursday’s season opener in The Bronx against the Red Sox. Weather could delay both, with Opening Day possibly moved to Friday.
