The memoir of Valerie Biden Owens — President Biden’s confidant, campaign adviser and little sister — is due out next week as questions swirl about Biden family members, most notably first son Hunter, benefiting from the influence of the patriarch’s long political career.
“Growing Up Biden: A Memoir,” published by Celadon Books, features a picture of Owens posing with Joe Biden, their two brothers and their mother on the book cover.
Owens, whose scheduled Thursday book tour launch was postponed due to a positive COVID-19 test, was her older brother’s campaign manager for all seven of his Senate runs. She also advised Joe Biden during all three of his presidential campaigns.
The April 12 book release comes as the investigation intensifies into Hunter Biden’s business dealings in Ukraine and China — as well as what his father knew about those relationships, despite Biden’s insistence that he never talked business with his son.
The Post on Wednesday cited 12 different occasions on which Biden came into contact or helped his son’s business associates, including meetings in China and letters of recommendation to colleges.
Legal experts on Wednesday also told The Post they want the president to release corporate tax returns between 2017 and 2019 to reveal the sources of the more than $13 million in income he and first lady Jill Biden reported in those years.
In addition to the first son’s legal difficulties, Owens’ memoir appears to conflict with the White House’s ethics policy that family members should not be able to cash in on being related to the president.
“It’s the White House’s policy that the President’s name should not be used in connection with any commercial activities to suggest or in any way — in any way they could reasonably be understood to imply his endorsement or support,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement last January.
Owens’ book is hitting stores a year after Biden transition team lawyers told then-Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’ niece Meena, a social media influencer with 800,000 Instagram followers, that she couldn’t use her aunt’s fame to boost her own personal brand through books or clothing.
Owens served as her brother’s national campaign chair from 2007 to 2008, but it doesn’t appear that she was paid by the campaign directly, Fox News reported.
She was an “executive vice president” for Democratic consulting firm Joe Slade White & Company, which took in more than $2.5 million from the presidential campaign and the “Citizens for Biden” committee between March 2007 and October 2008, the report said.
Owens’ daughter, Valerie J. Owens, also snagged work on her uncle’s 2008 presidential campaign and in the Obama-Biden administration.
The younger Owens, known as Missy, was deputy chief of staff in the Energy Department between February 2009 and June 2011, the report said, and spent a year as the chief of staff to the deputy commerce secretary.
Following those stints, Missy worked in the government relations department for Coca-Cola for a decade, which coincided with the soft drink giant’s reported lobbying against a bill cracking down on the use of Uyghur forced labor in China, Fox said. She was hired by General Motors two months ago for a senior position in the company’s regulatory affairs department.
As the Obama-Biden administration was ending, Missy contacted Hunter Biden, her cousin and the then-vice president’s son, about helping get her mother a job in the administration, saying it would be “good for her” and that she “needs it more than I do right now,” Fox News Digital reported, citing emails it reviewed.
Valerie Biden Owens was subsequently appointed to a four-month ceremonial position as an “Alternate Representative of the United States to the 71st Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations,” which paid approximately $26,000, about a year later, the report said.
The March 2015 email exchange appeared to be prompted by a White House statement announcing that Eric Schwerin, a business partner of Hunter’s, had been named to the Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad.
“Is this our Eric?” Missy asked her cousin.
“How did he/we find that one, and do you think we can find something for my mom?” she asked Hunter. “I wanted to do it, but I think Mom needs it more than I … what do you think?”
“I didn’t know she wanted to do that me [sic] of these. Eric asked for one of these the day after the election in 2008. You know better than me what are real and interesting appointments. Let’s go through the list with Steve and see what makes sense,” Hunter answered, an apparent reference to his father’s then-chief of staff Steve Ricchetti.
“I don’t know how much 2016 and nepotism plays into it,” he continued, the report said.Owens later went on to take leadership roles at the Biden Foundation and the Beau Biden Foundation for the Protection of Children. She’s currently the chair of the Biden Institute at the University of Delaware.
The university has previously declined to release her contract, the report said.
Owens’ husband, John, also appeared to benefit from knowing Hunter and Joe Biden, with whom he attended law school at Syracuse University.
In 2014, John Owens sought help from Hunter in an email, saying he needed a Chinese business license “secured very quickly” to expand his telemedicine company, the report said.
“Time pressures are very tight, plus the fact that we do not yet have one has caused a slight credibility bump in the company’s mind. This all translates into a need for a Business License, and one secured very quickly,” Owens wrote to Hunter.
“While this might seem to be a mundane task, I have come to understand that matters such as a Business License can end up taking an inordinate amount of time … time we just do not have,” he said.
Hunter, the report said, forwarded the email to some of his business partners with ties to China.
“Is there a way we can help him expedite this? Time is of the essence here,” Hunter wrote.
It’s unclear whether a business license was secured.
John Owens also received an invitation from then-Vice President Biden’s executive assistant Kathy Chung to attend events at the White House, the report said, as well as a State Department luncheon in honor of Chinese President Xi Jinping about a year after his initial email to Hunter.
“Yes Kathy,” John Owens replied, the report said. “I would like to attend this one. I know I have passed up everything else, but this is a bit different. I just rec’d this so I do not know what VBO [Valerie Biden Owens] is going to do. Do you have my info to respond with picture, etc, or do you want me to do that.”
The White House, Owens and Celadon Books did not respond to requests for commentfrom Fox News Digital.
