A Florida man was fatally attacked by an alligator Tuesday morning while searching for a frisbee in a lake, according to police.
A passerby saw the victim’s body in Taylor Lake in Largo and contacted cops.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission later confirmed that the man had died after an encounter with an alligator.
Largo police reiterated a warning to not enter the lake or attempt to feed the reptiles after the incident Tuesday.
“Do not come out near Taylor Lake at this time,” the agency said in a statement.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of his next of kin.
Alligator trappers were sent to the area and the investigation into the mauling is ongoing.
A 40-year-old man suffered lacerations to his head and hand after wading waist deep in the lake in 2020, according to reports. He survived the incident by prying the alligator off with his hand.
It is currently alligator mating season, which can lead to increased aggression.
