When one boxing match ended, several more sprung out.
After American Devin Haney proved to be the superior fighter in a victory over George Kambosos on Sunday, becoming the first undisputed lightweight world champion in modern boxing history, punches were thrown by fans outside the ring.
According to video published by 7News in Melbourne, Australia, brawls broke out outside Marvel Stadium following the much-hyped fight involving the previously undefeated Kambosos.
The footage shows about a dozen men milling about and exchanging shoves in the aftermath of what appeared to be a nasty fight. One man lay on the ground on his stomach, only stirring after a few moments.
In another scene outside Marvel Stadium from 7News, about a half-dozen men try to land punches while a crowd begins forming around them.
Police in Victoria said they were aware of the incidents and said there were no arrests made.
“Those involved in that incident [involving a man knocked out] left the scene before police arrived, and no victim has come forward at this time,” a Victorian police spokesperson told the Herald Sun.
“Unfortunately, there were a few disappointing incidents with police arresting an intoxicated male who was being evicted and found to be in possession of drugs.”
The 23-year-old Haney, who won on points, became the youngest-ever undisputed champion at any weight in the four-belt era.
