Tributes continue to pour in for Tony Siragusa, the larger-than-life former Ravens great and Fox Sports personality, who died at the age of 55 earlier this week.
Shannon Sharpe played with Siragusa on the Ravens in 2000 and 2001, and the two were teammates in Super Bowl 35, when Baltimore defeated the New York Giants.
“I’m heartbroken. I’m crushed. I really don’t even know what to say about my good friend, teammate and draft-mate Tony Siragusa,” Sharpe said in a video posted to Twitter.
“I just saw Goose a month ago when we were filming a ’30 for 30′ on the 2000 Ravens. He walked up to me and said, ‘I see you’re still working out and eating bulljive.’ I said to him, ‘I see you’re not working out, eating bulljive.’ We laughed, we hugged, it was a great time. We spent about 5-6 hours together just talking, laughing and reminiscing – and now he’s gone.”
Sharpe said he was “heartbroken” for Siragusa’s immediate family, but concluded the video with a message: “I have one thing to say big fella … Next time I see you, I’m gonna need my restitution. You embarrassed me on national television. Rest easy, Goose.”
In a follow-up tweet, Sharpe shared a clip from HBO’s “Hard Knocks” in 2001, when Siragusa barricaded him and Todd Heap in a room as a prank.
A myriad of others have recalled Siragusa as a magnanimous influence in their lives. ESPN anchor Sage Steele shared a video that was filmed just last month of Siragusa seeking to cheer her up, as she had to miss an event commemorating the 2000 Ravens after she was drilled in the face by an errant tee shot by Jon Rahm at the 2022 PGA Championship.
“Grateful for 25 yrs of hysterical memories with this man,” wrote Steele, whose brother Chad is a media relations executive for the Ravens. “We lost another good one today.”
Jacob Ullman, a production executive at Fox Sports, shared a touching photo from years back of Siragusa lifting up his young daughter, as well as a text exchange encouraging Ullman to “kiss the kids for me.”
“He was a gentle giant & placed family above everything else,” Ullman wrote on Twitter. “To know him was to love him. He was so kind & I have never met anybody that was more generous. This picture of him & my daughter always makes me smile. I am so lucky to have crossed paths with you. RIP Goose.”
