Gerrit Cole is used to mowing down batters, and on Saturday, he proved he’s big on chowing down on fruit too.
The Yankees ace was seen on the YES Network broadcast in the dugout scarfing down a banana and demolishing orange slices during his outing against the Orioles at Camden Yards.
“Gerrit Cole has been getting after it in the dugout,” play-by-play announcer Ryan Ruocco said. “Little banana. Did it in three bites. How about an orange? Making sure he keeps his energy out there on the mound on a hot day. And he’s very efficient with those bites.”
“Is he the new fruit ninja?” Cameron Maybin asked.
Cole wasn’t as efficient against Baltimore hitters, though, as the Yankees fell to the Orioles, 6-3. He allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out six over six innings in a losing effort.
