Observations from Jets camp on Wednesday.
Zach Attack
One day after the Jets allowed eight “sacks” in practice, QB Zach Wilson completed 12 of 15 passes as the plan turned to getting the ball out of his hand quickly on short routes. Wilson’s finest completion was a sidearm toss in traffic to WR Elijah Moore cutting across his face, while Tarik Black and Jeff Smith made highlight catches for other quarterbacks. Wilson was “sacked” once, but also turned an RPO into a touchdown run.
Showing Some Fight
OT Grant Hermanns and DE Micheal Clemons started pushing and shoving after a whistle and a couple of the shots landed high around their necks, though there did not seem to be any closed-fist punches thrown. Between the whistles, rookie WR Garrett Wilson had two drops — one from Joe Flacco and one from Mike White.
Caught My Eye
Former Jets receiver Brandon Marshall was at practice for his “I Am Athlete” podcast. He wasn’t a typical media member, however, as he played catch on the sidelines and stepped onto the field to pick up a flag and loudly remind a defensive player called for pass interference that his pass break-up did not count.
Medical Reports
CB Brandin Echols joined CB D.J. Reed and RB Ty Johnson on the list of hamstring injuries. Head coach Robert Saleh is optimistic that Reed will return next week. OT Conor McDermott (ankle) remains out.
