Atlanta Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna was arrested after 4:30 a.m. Friday for driving under the influence, according to multiple reports citing police records.
The 31-year-old was speeding and failed to stay in one lane, according to TMZ, with his driving described as “unsafe” and “improper.” Officers conducted field sobriety tests before arresting him.
He is also charged with an unsafe lane change. Ozuna was released from county jail on $1,820 bond, according to The Athletic.
The Braves said they were aware of the incident.
“The Atlanta Braves are aware of Marcell Ozuna’s arrest this morning and are still gathering all the facts pertaining to the incident,” the organization said in a statement Friday. “Our organization takes these matters very seriously and are obviously disappointed by the situation. As this is a legal matter, we will have no further comment until the process is complete.”
Per The Post’s Jon Heyman, Ozuna met with Atlanta GM Alex Anthoploulos and manager Brian Snitker after his release.
It is unclear what penalty he will face from the team or MLB.
It is the second arrest in 15 months for Ozuna, who faced assault and battery charges last year after police allegedly witnessed him choking his wife while responding to a call. Felony charges were dropped and replaced with misdemeanor family violence battery and simple assault.
Ozuna agreed to enter a six-month domestic violence intervention program plus more than 200 hours of community service and anger management counseling as part of a probation deal. He received a retroactive unpaid suspension of 20 games during the 2021 season.
He apologized to fans and teammates in March at spring training.
“My fans, I’m going to give you the best,” he said, “and I’m going to be a better person, and I’m sorry.”
Ozuna is owed more than $41 million on his four-year, $65 million contract through the 2024 season, but he lost his starting job earlier this season and is hitting .214.
