Wendy’s holding the lettuce in 3 states following E. coli outbreak

Fast food giant Wendy’s announced it is pulling lettuce from sandwiches in its Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania outlets after customers reported feeling ill.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Friday it was looking into whether or not romaine lettuce was the source of an E. coli outbreak that has sickened at least 37 people.

They are also determining if the lettuce used at Wendy’s was served or sold elsewhere.

The CDC said that there is no evidence to support that romaine sold in grocery stores is directly related to the current outbreak. The agency did not advise the public to stop eating Wendy’s or romaine lettuce in general.

Wendy’s, which operates over 6,500 eateries worldwide, is not eliminating the lettuce used in its salads, because it is different from the one used in its sandwiches.
