Eli Manning reveals the unexpected family member Tom Brady likely ‘hates’
Eli Manning may have spoiled two Super Bowl wins for Tom Brady, but another Manning could be the real thorn in a certain Buccaneer’s side.
During an appearance on Julian Edelman’s “Games with Names” podcast this week, the former Giants quarterback, 41, quipped that Brady, 45, likely “hates” his mom, Olivia Manning, given she birthed two NFL signal-callers who have often stood in the former Patriot’s way.
“He hates my mom. If it weren’t for Olivia Manning, Tom would have like 12 Super Bowls probably,” Manning joked.
Manning, who retired from the NFL in January 2020 after 16 seasons, famously defeated Brady in two Super Bowls, the first in February 2008, followed by a rematch four years later. In the first outing, the Giants spoiled the Patriots’ hopes of an undefeated season with a 17-14 upset, handing New England a final record of 18-1.
Manning’s older brother, Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning, also thwarted Brady’s attempts at Super Bowl glory on multiple occasions. When Peyton, 46, was with the Colts, he defeated Brady’s Patriots in the AFC Championship game in January 2007, and did so again nearly a decade later, but this time, as a member of the Broncos.
Brady won six championships during his time with the Patriots and claimed his latest ring in February 2021 as a member of the Buccaneers. He’s looking to add another to his collection this season, which kicks off in two short weeks.
The Buccaneers will open the season against the Cowboys in Dallas on Sunday, Sept. 11.
