Bucks’ Bobby Portis trolls Knicks: ‘Most miserable year of my career’
It doesn’t seem like Bobby Portis Jr. enjoyed his time in New York.
When asked by Sports Illustrated if he would rather go back and play with the Wizards or with the Knicks — the two teams he played with in 2019 — Portis said he didn’t have a good experience with New York.
“I’d probably go back and play with the Knicks… My first go around with them, wasn’t good. Our team was a little different …we had like, 5 power forwards,” Portis said, seemingly referring to the team’s overhaul of 4’s: Marcus Morris Sr., Julius Randle, Kevin Knox, and Moe Harkless.
Portis signed with Milwaukee after the Knicks declined their option on him during the summer of 2020, and he won a title with the Bucks a year later.
When Knicks Twitter started chirping about his comments, Portis tweeted he was “just trolling.”
“That was the most miserable year of my career,” he said about his short-lived Knicks tenure. “Thankful for it though … made me come back stronger.”
The Knicks did find their way back to the playoffs for the first time since 2013 after Portis left, something fans let him know.
“We won the chip that same year lol,” the 27-year-old responded.
In his only season with the Knicks, Portis saw his production dip across the board, averaging just 21 minutes per game with 10.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.5 assists on 45 percent shooting in 66 games and five starts. After the pandemic-shortened season, the Knicks moved on from Portis, Elfrid Payton, Theo Pinson, Wayne Ellington, and others while clearing $40 million in cap space.
Portis and the Bucks will visit his former team at The Garden on Nov. 30.
