Trump blasts ‘racist’ NY AG Letitia James for ‘witch hunt’ lawsuit
Former President Donald Trump blasted New York Attorney General Letitia James for filing a “witch hunt” lawsuit against him on Wednesday — as he accused her of being a “fraud” and a “racist.”
“Another Witch Hunt by a racist Attorney General, Letitia James,” Trump raged on his Truth Social platform soon after her office filed a $250 million civil lawsuit against him, his company and his three eldest kids.
James has accused the ex-president and the Trump Organization of vast fraud for falsely inflating his net worth by manipulating the value of some of his prized assets — including his various golf courses, hotels and homes.
The 45th president lashed out in the wake of the lawsuit, accusing James of only going after him because of her own bad polling numbers in her bid for re-election as New York’s AG. He did not elaborate on his claim that James, who is black, was “racist.”
“I never thought this case would be brought – until I saw her really bad poll numbers,” Trump said.
“She is a fraud who campaigned on a ‘get Trump’ platform, despite the fact that the city is one of the crime and murder disasters of the world under her watch!”
He also mocked James’ failed run last year to be the state’s Democrat gubernatorial candidate, saying she got “almost zero support from the public.” She dropped out of the race that would have pitted her against Gov. Kathy Hochul, instead seeking a second term as New York’s top lawyer.
In a follow up post, Trump suggested the AG stop wasting her time and instead tackle violent crimes across the state.
“She is a failed A.G. whose lack of talent in the fight against crime is causing record numbers of people and companies to flee New York. Bye, bye!” Trump wrote.
His sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric, were quick to lash out, too, slamming the lawsuit — which also names them as defendants along with sister Ivanka — as a “witch hunt.”
“The bulls–t Dem witch-hunt continues!” Trump Jr. tweeted.
His brother added: “Not a political “witch hunt?!” What a joke.”
In her lawsuit against Trump, James said an investigation had uncovered possible criminal violations, including of falsifying business records, insurance fraud, issuing false financial statement, conspiracy and bank fraud.
She said her office was referring the case to the Internal Revenue Service and to federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York.
“Donald Trump falsely inflated his net worth by billions of dollars to unjustly enrich himself, and cheat the system, thereby cheating all of us,” James said at a news conference announcing the suit.
“Claiming you have money that you do not have does not amount to the art of the deal, it’s the art of the steal,” she said, referring to Trump’s 1987 book.
