High school basketball player, 17, fatally shot in the face while hanging out on NYC street
A 17-year-old high school basketball player was fatally shot on a Brooklyn street Wednesday night, police and sources said.
The teen was hanging out with several people outside of 1225 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights when two male gunmen approached the group and opened fire just after 6:15 p.m., cops said.
The girl, who sources said was an unintended target, was struck in the face.
She was taken to Brookdale Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.
No other injuries were reported. It was unclear who in the group the shooters were targeting.
The two suspects, who wore dark clothing, fled the scene and no arrests have been made.
Six shell casings were recovered at the scene, according to police.

The deadly shooting is the latest in this week’s bloody span of city-wide violence. Between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning ta least 16 people were hurt in nine shootings.
