It was a double-doink of heartbreak for the Saints in London on Sunday.
With just seconds left to go in the fourth quarter against the Vikings, New Orleans hoped to tie the game with a 61-yard field goal attempt at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where Minnesota led by three, 28-25.
The attempt by Saints placekicker Wil Lutz proceeded to hit the left upright and then crossbar before the ball fell back toward the field, giving the Vikings their third win of the season.
The Saints and Vikings kept things interesting throughout the second half of Sunday’s game, with Minnesota scoring its final points on a 47-yard field goal by Greg Joseph moments before Lutz attempted three.
Sunday’s game wasn’t without incident, however, as Vikings rookie safety Lewis Cine was carted off the field in the first half after suffering a scary leg injury. The first-round pick was ruled out the rest of the game with a leg fracture and taken to a local hospital.
The Vikings will host the Bears next Sunday while the Saints, now 1-3, will face the Seahawks in New Orleans.
The Giants and Packers will travel across the pond next week for the second London game of the season.
