Meet Cory Youmans, Dallas investment VP who caught Aaron Judge’s 62nd home run
Everything is bigger in Texas, and one fan is in line for a massive payday.
Aaron Judge hit his 62nd home run in Game 2 of the Yankees’ doubleheader against the Rangers at Choctaw Stadium, and a lucky fan named Cory Youmans came away from the ball.
As he was whisked around the stadium by security, Youmans was peppered with questions by reporters.
Asked what he was going to do with the ball, Youmans said, “That’s a good question! I haven’t thought about it!”
Upon a followup question where he was asked if he was going to keep the ball or give it back to Judge, Youmans, who was sporting a Texas Rangers cap, appeared to answer, “I don’t know.”
Youmans is a vice president at a local branch of Fisher Investments.
The ball is worth $2 million — at a minimum — as Memory Lane President JP Cohen has previously put that number out as an offer for Judge’s 62nd home run ball.
Everything to know about Aaron Judge and his chase for the home run record:
- Aaron Judge hits 62nd home run to break Roger Maris’ record
- Listen to Michael Kay and John Sterling call Aaron Judge’s 62nd home run
- Aaron Judge’s parents celebrate his historic 62nd home run
- All of Aaron Judge’s home runs this season
Judge’s 62nd home run is an American League and Yankees franchise record, passing Roger Maris’ mark of 61 set in 1961.
Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire and Barry Bonds all hit more than 62 home runs in the National League; Bonds holds the all-time record with 73, hit in 2001. However, baseball fans and media are split over who they see as the true home run king, as Sosa, McGwire and Bonds were all heavily suspected of performance enhancing drug use.
If Youmans opts to sell the baseball, it will be fascinating to see what the final price will be. No one caught Judge’s 61st home run as it landing in the Blue Jays bullpen at Rogers Centre.
Judge was pulled from the Yankees – Rangers game Tuesday night after his second at-bat. The Yankees play in Texas again on Wednesday afternoon, which would be the final chance for Judge to add to his regular season home run total.
