NYC commuter ‘won’t ride subway after 7 p.m.’ anymore after being shoved onto tracks by ‘maniac’

A bruised and battered Big Apple straphanger recalled to The Post on Tuesday how a maniac “came out of nowhere” and shoved him onto Union Square subway tracks, prompting good Samaritans to help save him.

“Scary sh-t, man,” said the 25-year-old rattled commuter, who works in commercial real estate. “I won’t be taking the subway after 7 p.m. again.

“Honestly, I never thought this would happen to me. I’ve heard of this stuff happening, but I didn’t think it would be me.”

The victim, who asked not to be identified, said he was wearing AirPods and looking down at his phone while standing on the No. 6 train platform at the 14th Street-Union Square station around 9:30 p.m. Monday when the attack occurred.

He was transferring from the No. 4 train after leaving his job when he was suddenly pushed onto the tracks in the unprovoked attack, cops said.

Surveillance video showed the man being shoved from behind, law-enforcement sources said.

“I got pushed from behind. I hit my head on the tracks,” the victim told The Post. “Luckily, I was able to get up on my own. The guy had seen me. He came out of nowhere and shoved me from behind.”

Fortunately, no trains were coming into the station, and a pair of good Samaritans helped him back up onto the platform — leaving him shaken and bloodied, but safe.

The victim said one of the subway heroes was a nurse who gave him gauze for the bleeding.

His attacker fled the station and remains on the loose.

The victim — who came to the city from California in 2019 — said he was treated at Bellevue Hospital, where he required 18 stitches to close the gash on his head and four stitches for a cut on his arm.

Asked what he would say to Mayor Eric Adams about the current state of the crime-plagued Apple, the man replied, “I would say that I love the city, but the fact that this guy is still on the streets is pretty pathetic.”

The victim added that he would describe himself as “a pro-subway guy.

“I was riding with my mask on in 2020,” the straphanger said.

He said he’ll be calling for an Uber in the future, but generally, “I’m more vigilant now after the shove.

“I’m going to have my head on a swivel,” the guy said.
