Dane Cook says fiancée made him a better comic despite 27-year age gap

Comedian Dane Cook, 50, said that being engaged to 23-year-old Kelsi Taylor has given him a fresh outlook on his jokes.
In an interview with E! News, the comedian shared that Taylor was the first person to hear and react to his newest material, which was just released in his special “Above It All” Wednesday.
“She saw everything that I was working on for the show,” Cook revealed. “And she was like, ‘Keep that in. I think that part will be great.’”
“There’s even some fun at our own expense,” he added, referencing the 27-year age gap between the two.
“We have a bit of an age difference, so it’s in the show, it’s in the show,” he said. “If we can’t laugh at it, then nobody else is allowed.”
Cook also thinks his engagement and impending marriage will ultimately change his comedy and the types of jokes he will tell.
“I was just trying some material out on her the other day where I was like, ‘Hey, I think I have maybe my first “what it’s like to be married” joke,’” he told E! News. “So, she got the exclusive. We tried it out and she said, ‘I approve of that. That’s a good one.’”
The actor and comedian believes this new chapter of his life will resonate with his fans, as he’s grown up alongside them.
“I think it’ll change it in the way that I would always hope growing up with a generation of comedy fans,” Cook said. “I was a college kid talking to, you know, college-age students. And to grow up with a generation of comedy fans — their kids are now coming to my show. I’m family oriented and to be looking at that with Kelsi and our future and family, it’s like, all feels like the right timing.”
Cook proposed to Taylor in July after five years of dating.
