My appendix went ‘missing’ and doctors don’t know where it’s gone

She must have had a gut feeling.

A woman was shocked to discover her appendix went “missing” — and it left doctors scratching their heads.

Jeri and Ciara, hosts of the “Ladies and Tangents” podcast, shared the harrowing tale on TikTok, racking up 5.3 million views.

Ciara revealed to her co-host that she was in the hospital the morning of filming.

“I had a little bit of tingy pain in my right side,” she said of her abdomen. “But I thought it was a cyst.”

That is, until she was informed that’s where her appendix would normally be located. When she got to the hospital, even the doctors thought her diagnosis would be appendicitis, but they had to run some tests — like a CT and ultrasound — to confirm.

Except, she didn’t have an appendix at all.

“The doctor comes in and he’s like, ‘Well, so, we figured some stuff out,'” she continued. “He’s like, ‘First of all, your appendix didn’t show up on the CT scan.’ And I was like, ‘Where is it?'”

Instead of answering her question, the doc said there was no inflammation where her appendix would be, which was “good.”

“I was like, ‘I don’t like that we’re just glossing over this, that my appendix is missing,'” she said with a laugh. “I’ve always had it.”

“Did they ever find it?” Jeri asked, to which Ciara said, they didn’t.

While they did find cysts on her ovaries and fluid in her pelvic region — signaling that one must have burst — the tech also found a “spot” in her lung. Coupled with her “horrible” cough, the doctor diagnosed her with pneumonia.

“So not only was I there for that s–t, but I f—ing have pneumonia right now,” she concluded while giggling.

“You have no f—ing appendix, you have a cyst that just burst and now you got pneumonia,” Jeri joked, followed by asking if Ciara thinks she got taken by aliens, which would explain the disappearing organs.

Viewers, naturally, were in shock.

“If this isn’t an example of women coping with chronic pain and just powering on through, I don’t know what is,” one stated.

“Went in for the same thing and they did an ultrasound and couldn’t find my appendix so they just gave me some pain meds and sent me on my way,” wrote another.

The appendix, a tiny pouch attached to the large intestine and found in the lower right side of the abdomen, has perplexed medical professionals for years.

It’s “unclear” how it plays a role in the body, and since it can be removed with no consequences, it seems to be practically useless. At least that’s true as people age — in younger years, the appendix can be an integral part of the immune system.

One TikTok user who claimed to be a tech commented on the video, noting it may just be hiding.

“CT tech here, completely normal,” they wrote. “It’s a very tiny organ and depending on habitus, can be extremely hard to find.”
