Thief grabs $2.5K artwork from gallery, robs elderly man in NYC: cops
A thief stole a $2,500 piece of art from a Manhattan galley — just two days after he mugged an elderly man at gunpoint, according to police.
The NYPD released surveillance footage of the suspect wanted in both incidents from last month, the most recent at the NuFrame Gallery in the West Village.
The man walked into the art space on West 10th Street near Sixth Avenue at around around 5:45 p.m. on Sept. 13 and grabbed a framed picture off the wall, cops said late Wednesday. Authorities didn’t have specific details about the pricey artwork.
Two days earlier, cops believe the same suspect rolled up on a bicycle to an 82-year-old man sitting on a stoop at Prince and Thompson streets in SoHo.
Surveillance video shows him pointing a gun at the senior and snatching a cell phone from his hands.
He then rode off on his bike, heading south on West Broadway, cops said.
The victim was not injured.
