The head of the State Police Trooper union has been moved out of his post by the union board as it raises questions about the PBA’s spending and contracts, sources said.
Thomas H. Mungeer was placed on leave by the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association following an executive session meeting Thursday, the sources told The Post.
The board was said to be looking into insurance company contracts as well as expense accounts, the sources said.
The accusations against Mungeer, who was elected union president in 2009, were not immediately clear. Calls to Mungeer were not returned.
“Tom Mungeer was not replaced as the president of the NYSTPBA; he is on a leave of absence from the NYSTPBA Board of Directors,” a spokesman for the union said, refusing to comment further on the move.
The union leadership shuffle was unrelated to the Friday’s news that New York State Police Superintendent Kevin Bruen was stepping down after it emerged he improperly shielded a staffer from HR complaints. Bruen had a “close personal relationship” with the staffer.
