The Blue Jays-Mariners game on Saturday had a bit of everything — including a scary outfield collision.
Blue Jays center fielder George Springer was carted off the field after he collided with shortstop Bo Bichette in the eighth inning of Seattle’s AL wild-card-clinching 10-9 victory in Toronto.
With the Blue Jays holding a three-run lead in the eighth inning, J.P. Crawford hit a shallow pop fly into the outfield and Toronto’s George Springer and Bo Bichette collided while trying to make the catch.
Three runners scored off the hit, which counted as a double for Crawford, tying the game at 9-9.
The two fielders stayed on the ground before Bichette slowly rose back to his feet. Springer, however, was removed from the game after the collision.
While being carted off the diamond, Springer kept raising his right arm in an effort to rally support at Rogers Center. Jackie Bradley Jr. replaced Springer in center field.
Seattle rallied from an 8-2 deficit to get back into Saturday’s playoff game.
The Mariners will now head to Houston to face the Astros in the ALDS, which begins on Tuesday.
