The NFL may become multinational soon.
Roger Goodell hinted at bringing a four-team European division to the NFL on Saturday. Goodell previously said in 2018 bringing the Super Bowl to London will be “difficult” without having a franchise placed there.
“There’s no question that London could support not just one franchise, I think two franchises. I really believe that,” Goodell said on Saturday.
“We’re trying to sort of see, could you have multiple locations in Europe where you could have an NFL franchise? Because it would be easier as a division.”
The NFL first launched United Kingdom-based games in 2007 to attract more of a British fanbase.
Now, 15 years later, the Packers will be the final NFL team to have played at least one regular-season game in London when they play the Giants on Sunday.
The NFL is also expanding out of London this season by having the Buccaneers play the Seahawks play the league’s first-ever game in Germany next month.
