When it comes to smart speakers, Amazon’s Echo Dot is one of the best. Lucky for us, the powerhouse retailer is launching a brand new 2022 version of the popular speaker on Oct. 20, and we couldn’t be more excited about all of its new features. Plus, the launch date is great timing ahead of holiday shopping for loved ones.
In a nutshell, Echo Dot allows you to stay on track with help from Alexa, control compatible smart home devices and start routines with your motion.
One significant improvement from past iterations is the high-definition speaker for vibrant, rich sound anywhere in your home. The new speaker quality delivers more precise vocals and deeper bass, making listening to your favorite songs or podcasts that much more enjoyable. Plus, you can ask Alexa to play your go-to Spotify playlist and audiobooks and enjoy a dynamic audio experience anywhere in your space.
All-New Echo Dot (5th Gen, 2022 release), $50
The new Echo Dot comes in three colors: charcoal, deep sea blue, and glacier white. It’s also available for purchase with a battery base, smart plug, and even an eero WiFi Mesh router for an additional cost.
Alexa is ready to help throughout the day with weather and news updates, hands-free timers and reminders, and answers to your questions. If you’re feeling lonely one day or just want a laugh, Alexa can even tell you jokes. Using your voice, motion, or indoor temperature, you can also control your lights with compatible bulbs, smart plugs, thermostats, fans, and WiFi. The best part? You can create routines to turn on lights or play music at a scheduled time or as soon as you walk into a room.
Want a few extra minutes of sleep? (Who doesn’t?) When you don’t want to tell Alexa what to do verbally, you can physically tap the device to pause a song, end a call, stop a timer, or snooze an alarm.
You can partner the Echo Dot with many other Amazon devices like other Echo Dots, Amazon Fire TVs, eero WiFi routers and more.
Amazon also kept sustainability in mind with the fifth-generation Echo Dot. The new device comprises 55% post-consumer recycled plastics and 100% post-consumer polyester yarn (device, cable, and adapter included).
To help reduce its energy consumption, this device will enter Low Power Mode when idle. The Echo Dot packaging is 100% recyclable (not including the fulfillment center packaging), and if you’re interested in managing the energy usage of your Alexa-connected devices, you can do so on the energy dashboard in the Alexa app.
