World’s worst driver gets truck stuck vertically under overpass
Stuck between a road and a hard place.
A Canadian dump-truck driver may have cemented their legacy as the worst driver ever after getting their dump box impossibly trapped vertically between the highway and an overpass, forming a giant T. A video of the vehicular gaffe, uploaded by the Ontario Provincial Police, currently boasts over 77,000 views on Twitter.
“This dump box came off the truck,” intoned a narrator in a video of the facepalm-inducing “traffic jam,” which occurred Oct. 19 on Highway 401 in Mississauga, Ontario, Jam Press reported.
According to the clip, the trucker had just dumped a load where construction workers were finishing work on the express and collector lanes back towards Mississauga Road.
However, they failed to lower the dump box before driving off, which resulted in the refuse vessel getting jammed between Highway 401 and a pedestrian overpass.
In the accompanying clip, the red container can be seen wedged upright between the walkway and the road like something out of “Blues Brothers.” Meanwhile, the now box-less cab of the vehicle can be seen stopped further down the road.
“The box obviously lifted when it hit this pedestrian overpass,” said the video’s narrator, who added that the box should always be down while driving.
Thankfully, the absent-minded driver didn’t sustain any injuries in the fiasco, per the clip, however, the bridge did sustain some damage, per CTV News Toronto.
Emergency crews managed to extract the dump box using a crane at around 1:30 p.m, whereupon all eastbound express lanes of Highway 401 were reopened at 3 p.m.
The driver will reportedly be charged for the folly.
Needless to say, the dunderheaded driver was subsequently dumped on with one dumbfounded viewer writing on social media: “There’s a driver out there who will be making a career change.”
“When it comes to dump truck drivers stupidity, we don’t have to look to far,” tweeted another.
One incredulous Twitter commenter exclaimed, “My car has so many sensors that it knows if I’ve farted, and these truck drivers don’t know if their dumper is up!?
This isn’t the first time someone has gotten their vessel impossibly trapped.
In an infamous incident in March 2021, Japanese container ship Ever Given got stuck in the Suez Canal for six days, causing billions of dollars in trade delays.
