Jets expect disgruntled Elijah Moore to play versus Patriots: ‘Want to help him’

The Jets expect to have disgruntled wide receiver Elijah Moore back for Sunday’s game against the Patriots.

Moore, who is unhappy with his usage, was sent home Thursday after an outburst before practice directed at offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur. He later demanded a trade. The Jets made him inactive for their game against the Broncos and left him in New Jersey as they went to Denver.

Saleh said Moore was with the team on Monday as players went through weight lifting and a few other day-after-game activities. Saleh said he has not spoken to Moore, but probably will on Tuesday. He expects Moore to practice on Wednesday and be part of the plan against New England.

“You know what, that conversation is going to be more organic,” Saleh said of his chat with Moore. “I don’t have a plan for the conversation. I know the type of young man he is. I’ve already said it. I look forward to him continuing to find ways to get better and help this football team.”

Saleh was happy to hear several of Moore’s teammates have reached out to him. The Jets have made it clear they are not trading Moore before the Nov. 1 trading deadline and Saleh wants to get Moore back with the team.

“I just don’t think this is the time to alienate Elijah,” Saleh said. “He doesn’t need to be alienated from this organization. We love him. We think the world of him. We know what he can do from a football standpoint and how much he can help us. We just want to help him. We’re not alienating or moving him off to the side. No one is trying to turn the corner when they see him walking. We’re going to hit it straight on.

“He’s still part of this family, and family embraces one another in adversity. They don’t reject.”

Moore has just 16 catches for 203 yards this year and has not scored a touchdown.

Wide receiver Corey Davis is day-to-day with a knee injury. Saleh said his status for Sunday is “up in the air.”
