Grandma goes viral on TikTok with surprising pumpkin-carving hack

These standard kitchen tools will leave your pumpkins looking gourd-geous.

A TikToker has gone viral after showcasing her simple hack for carving pumpkins using only a hand mixer, Vaseline and cookie cutters.

Barbara “Babs” Costello — the self-proclaimed “everyone’s grandma” on TikTok — posted her trick last week, which explains how the viewer can keep their pumpkins looking fresh past Halloween.

In her video, which boasts over 24.6 million views, Costello says that it’s easier to cut the pumpkin open from the bottom rather than the top, and suggests it be done while seated with the pumpkin in your lap — ostensibly for comfort and just the right amount of leverage.

The native New Yorker also insists that using the hand mixer to gather and remove the seeds and pulp “literally cuts the job in half.”

Next, Costello claims that pro-carvers use a cookie cutter and mallet to cut out the designs.

The final — and perhaps most novel — step involves Vaseline, or any brand of petroleum jelly. Costello uses her finger to spread a thick layer of the goo over any exposed flesh around the pumpkin creature’s eyes, nose, mouth and bottom hold, which helps preserve the gourd so it stays fresh for even longer.

The Post reached out to Costello for comment.

Several of her followers have since touted the homemaker’s hack.

“My God, Babs, you NEVER fail to impress and teach me something new, and inspiring,” exclaimed one user.

“God, I love you! I have been doing everything wrong the last 40 plus years of my life,” said another.

Gushed one viewer, “You are the mom I always wanted and never had.”
