Patrick Mahomes seems pretty pleased about his new teammate.
Moments after news broke Thursday that the Chiefs acquired the Giants’ former first-round pick, wide receiver Kadarius Toney, Kansas City’s superstar quarterback reacted to the surprising move on Twitter, posting a gif of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson smiling.
Mahomes certainly has a reason to be happy. The Chiefs have been missing a true speed threat at wide receiver since trading Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins in the offseason.
As for Toney, who was selected 20th overall by the Giants last year, his NFL career thus far has been plagued by injuries. He hasn’t seen the field since Week 2 this season.
The now-former Giant amassed 41 receptions last season for 420 yards and zero touchdowns.
Big Blue received conditional third-round and six-round pick from Kansas City for Toney.
Toney himself reacted to Thursday’s news on Twitter, posting, “CHIEFS KINGDOM BABYY ❤️💛🙏🏽 Thank You God.” He also retweeted some messages from his former University of Florida teammates.
Toney will now join JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdez-Scantling, and Mecole Hardman in Kansas City’s wide receivers room.
The Chiefs are currently 5-2 this season. They lost to the Bills in Week 6 following a rematch of January’s epic divisional-round playoff duel.
With the Chiefs on a bye this week, it remains to be seen when Toney will make his debut for Kansas City.
