Fake Eminem scammer back with new holiday fraud scheme

Will the real Slim Shady please stand up?

Someone impersonating Eminem has once again tried to steal the identities of citizens from the rapper’s hometown of Detroit.

Back in February, Local 4 News spoke with a man who recalled a scammer pretending to be the rapper, offering to help pay for his injured nephew’s medical bills.

Then this summer, someone claiming to be the “Not Afraid” emcee allegedly asked people outside Michigan to schedule private concerts with him in an attempt to get their personal information.

Now Local 4’s Help Me Hank team is reporting recently receiving several emails from people who said someone claiming to be from Eminem’s foundation reached out to seek donations for Toys for Tots in Detroit.

People who did not have a toy to give could instead provide their personal information and credit card number to the scammer to do the shopping.

The real Slim Shady does have a real charitable organization — the Marshall Mathers Foundation, which was not involved in the fraud and has been working with police, according to the news outlet.

It is unclear if all the schemes are connected.

The Post has contacted reps for Eminem and his foundation for comment.
