Congresswoman tries to pump up low energy crowd at Biden event: ‘Let’s wake up!’

Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz struggled to amp up a crowd at a Tuesday event featuring President Biden — imploring the attendees to “wake up!”

The sparsely attended affair at a Hallandale Beach community center was the first of three events Biden was to hold in the Sunshine State seven days before the midterm elections.

“You want to improve people’s lives? I bet some people in here want to improve people’s lives. Are you with me?” Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) asked the audience before the president took the stage.

After a brief cheer from the crowd, the congresswoman and former head of the Democratic National Committee tried a little harder to pump up the audience, with middling results.

“C’mon people, let’s wake up! We got the president of the United States in the house! C’mon now! I know you got a little more energy than I hear,” Wasserman Schultz begged, raising her voice and snapping her fingers at the crowd.

The audience livened up a bit at Wasserman Schultz’s command but quickly went silent once again.

“OK. Thank you very much. That’s the crowd I know. Those are the people I represent. OK. Just wanted to make sure you’re still here,”  Wasserman Schultz reacted to the brief increase in cheering.

Biden would go on to take the stage and tell the audience that he has no “greater friend in the United States Senate” than Wasserman Schultz, who actually works in the House of Representatives.
