Tammy Bradshaw served as husband Terry Bradshaw’s rock throughout the NFL legend’s cancer battles, but she “carried a lot more worry and stress” over the situation than she let on.
Speaking Wednesday in an exclusive interview with “Today,” the Bradshaws opened up about the former Steelers quarterback’s cancer diagnoses, which included bladder cancer in November 2021 and Merkel cell carcinoma, a rare form of skin cancer, in March 2022. Tammy, who has been married to Bradshaw since 2014, elaborated on why the latter diagnosis “shook” her.
“The doctor calls me to tell me what it is, and then I’m shook because I was a radiation therapist for 10 years,” Tammy said. “I knew where this could go. I knew what the outcomes could be. And it did scare me the second time with that diagnosis.”
The 61-year-old Tammy continued, “I never said this to him, but inside I carried a lot more worry and stress than what I let him know I think.”
Bradshaw, 74, first revealed last month that he endured multiple cancer battles in less than a year. The Hall of Fame quarterback had been addressing recent health concerns on “Fox NFL Sunday” at the time.
“Folks, I may not look like my old self, but I feel like my old self. I’m cancer-free, I’m feeling great. And over time, I’m going to be back to where I normally am,” he said at the time.
Bradshaw added Wednesday on “Today” how much it’s meant to him to have Tammy at his side amid a challenging time.
“I can’t imagine not holding her hand when we take off on a plane,” he said. “Or when we land or when we snuggle up when we’re in bed together. Or when she’s sitting over there with our sick puppy.”
Next up for the Bradshaws? A future European vacation.
“We’re going to go to Europe, going to go to Paris, going to go to wherever we want to go. I’m going to get all this in because I feel like I don’t want to put this off anymore,” he said.
