Selling this sweet duplex penthouse was a piece of cake for Milk Bar owner, and baking-world icon, Christina Tosi.
From this home base in Chelsea, her husband, restaurateur William Guidara, was running Eleven Madison Park with chef Daniel Humm when it was named the world’s best restaurant on three separate years. (Humm bought out Guidara in 2019.) All the while, Tosi was cooking up her own Milk Bar empire.
But as their family expanded, the culinary couple put their home at 139 W. 19th St. on the market for $4.49 million in July. According to city property records, it just closed for $4.4 million. The buyers are Adi and Mirella Mashiach, according to the documents.
The stunning two-bedroom, two-bathroom home includes a sprawling 1,600-square-foot landscaped terrace, an enchanted “urban Zen” garden in the sky, according to the listing, that’s ideal for entertaining and al fresco dining.
That outdoor hangout is also paved in bluestone, and features a mahogany lattice dining pavilion along with mature specimen trees, perennial wildflowers and city skyline views.
Inside, there’s a “chef’s kitchen of one’s dreams,” the listing adds. That space, at the heart of the penthouse, features a 14-foot-long Carrera marble-clad island with seating for five, along with ribbed industrial glass and blackened-steel cabinetry. There are also top appliances: a six-burner vented stove, double ovens, two wine fridges, two dishwashers and a polished concrete floor.
In addition, the home boasts a private elevator and a 31-foot great room with four 10-foot-high windows. The ceilings are more than 13 feet tall. Design details include a woodburning fireplace, exposed brick walls and original restored white oak floors. Next up is a main bedroom suite with a custom walk-in closet/dressing room with a walnut pocket door and a windowed spa bath.
The historic home is in a former button factory and the building dates to 1909. The couple bought the residence for $3.7 million in 2016.
The listing broker was Mike Lubin, of Brown Harris Stevens.
