Bryson DeChambeau’s insane diet was destroying his body

Bryson DeChambeau would not recommend his bulking diet to any fellow golfer.

During a recent appearance on the “Five Clubs” podcast, the LIV Golf member recalled gaining around 50 pounds, which he called “a lot of fat,” in the span of a few months in 2020 by consuming six-to-eight protein shakes a day and extreme weightlifting.

“I ate things that were not great for my system, that I was really sensitive to,” he said, explaining that he suffered from an inflamed gut. “It got to the point where it was a little too much… I ate improperly for almost a year and a half, and I was starting to feel weird. My system and my gut was all messed up.”

DeChambeau ultimately reached his goal to get really strong without losing his range of motion. In the midst of his body transformation, he became the longest driver on the PGA Tour, on his way to winning the 2020 U.S. Open.

Now, the 29-year-old is feeling healthier and following a Whole 30 diet — which includes the consumption of whole foods and the elimination of sugar, alcohol, grains, and dairy.

“I went completely healthy, went on a Whole 30 diet, got a nutritionist, did blood work, measured stuff in my gut biome,” he said. “I was super inflamed.

“I’ve been using this new chef now [for about two and a half months]. I lost 20 pounds in a month. I had such huge mood swings from it. All the inflammation has just left my system and I feel a lot more at ease.

“I’m a lot leaner now and I feel better. My face is thinned out finally. I looked like I’m 20 again, not 35, so I’m happy about that. For me, I always go to the extremes.”

DeChambeau said he is focusing on eating healthy while trying to gain strength in the offseason.
