Fugitive wanted for stabbing his ex 18 times caught after 10 years on the run

A fugitive wanted for allegedly stabbing the mother of his two children 18 times was captured in Mexico and extradited to California after a decade on the lam, the feds said.

Don Alway, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, announced Tuesday that 33-year-old Pedro Fabian Rodriguez was returned to Orange County on Friday to face attempted murder charges.

Rodriguez is accused of viciously stabbing his former lover more than a dozen times in June 2012 before fleeing.

The following month, Rodriguez was charged by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office with attempted murder and other offenses, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

However, detectives soon learned that Rodriguez had fled California and requested the assistance of the FBI’s Fugitive Task Force to track him down.

Earlier this year, more than a decade after the suspect’s escape, investigators developed information concerning the fugitive’s whereabouts, and the Mexican government issued a provisional arrest warrant.

Rodriguez was located and arrested at an undisclosed location in Mexico in July 2022. Following his transfer to Mexico City, the US District Court for the Central District of California issued a federal warrant for the suspect’s arrest on Nov. 11.

After his extradition to Orange County, Rodriguez was turned over to the Anaheim Police Department, which is leading the investigation into the 2012 stabbing.

CBS News reported that Rodriguez pleaded not guilty to the charges against him Monday. He is due back in court for a pretrial hearing on Dec. 1.
