Vanderbilt coach Jerry Stackhouse restrained by security during heated ejection

Vanderbilt coach Jerry Stackhouse had be restrained by some of his coaching staff, as well as a police officer, following his ejection in Wednesday’s game versus VCU.

Tensions boiled over in the second half when Vanderbilt’s Liam Robbins was called for a technical foul. Unhappy with the call, Stackhouse yelled at the officials and received two technicals, warranting an automatic ejection from the game.

In videos of the incident, a fuming Stackhouse can be seen charging toward the referees before being escorted to the locker room. Stackhouse allegedly screamed, “f–k you,” during the fiery moments, per Fox News.

Robbins initially picked up the technical after a dunk, which he celebrated by tapping his head. The dunk moved Vanderbilt to within three points of VCU at the time — in the eventual 70-65 loss.

This is Stackhouse’s fourth season as the head coach of Vanderbilt, who hired him prior to the 2019-20 season. Before he segued into coaching, the 48-year-old Stackhouse had a successful NBA career that included two All-Star appearances.

Stackhouse earned his first winning season at Vanderbilt last year with a 19-17 record. The Commodores are currently 3-4, while Stackhouse’s overall record in Nashville stands at 42-58.

Stackhouse is trying to take the team back to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2017 when they fell to Northwestern in the first round.

Vanderbilt’s next game is at home Saturday against Wofford, as the Commodores will look to get back to .500. It is unclear if Stackhouse will face further punishment for his tirade.
