Roach-infested Detroit Popeyes shut down over DoorDash driver video

Do you want bugs with that?

A Detroit Popeyes location temporarily closed its doors this week after a DoorDash driver filmed cockroaches crawling over to-go orders at the restaurant, WXYZ Detroit reported.

The delivery driver was waiting to pick up orders at the fried-chicken chain when she noticed the bugs crawling all over the counter, including on straws.

“I told the workers, they all back there, they all cleared out,” the DoorDasher said in the clip, which she posted on social media.

“These are DoorDashes,” she said in the video, showing several to-go bags before loudly gasping at the sight of a roach crawling on a cardboard food container.

The delivery driver told the news outlet that she had never seen such a sight in her two years of delivering food, and even threw away the customer’s order. She alerted the restaurant chain and her DoorDash customer, who she helped report the issue to get a refund.

“I was shocked. I was disgusted. I just couldn’t believe that they were even open and working in those conditions,” she said.

A spokesperson with the Detroit Health Department told the outlet that they sent an inspector to the chain’s location on Monday after being told about the stomach-churning infestation, and saw signs of the bugs.

The Health Department added that because Popeyes serves chicken, the location is inspected every six months and has had no prior issues.

A Popeyes spokesperson told The Post that the restaurant’s conditions were “completely unacceptable” and that the franchise location “has been shut down until it can provide our guests with the Popeyes standards and service they deserve.”

On Tuesday, a sign in the door read “Closed due to Maintenance,” WXYZ reported.

The delivery driver told the outlet that while she was sad that the staff would be losing out on their pay during the holiday season, “I don’t want them working in those conditions because that’s awful.”
