A 58-year-old man with nearly 100 arrests who was released two weeks ago from jail for sex abuse allegedly attacked a cop on a subway this week, police sources said Friday.
Damon Callaway is accused of hitting the officer in the face after cops stopped him for fare beating at the West 125th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue station in Harlem at around 5:45 p.m. Thursday, sources said.
The officer, who was also spit on by Callaway, was treated a St. Luke’s Hospital for a cut to the face and bruising, sources said
The ex-con was hit with charges of assault on a police officer and awaiting arraignment Friday.
The latest legal trouble for Callaway comes after he was busted for forcible touching on Oct. 15. He spent a little more than a month in jail before pleading guilty on Nov. 28, being released with time served and a one-year conditional discharge. The details on this sex abuse case were not immediately available.
Callaway, who has 99 arrests on his rap sheet, is on the NYPD’s list as a sex crime recidivist in the transit system, sources said.
Nineteen of his earlier busts have a top charge of resisting arrest, the sources added.
