2 teens dead, 2 injured after shooting outside Chicago’s Benito Juarez High School

Two teens were killed and two others wounded in a horrific mass shooting outside a Chicago high school Friday afternoon as students were being dismissed for the weekend, according to reports.

The gunfire exploded at Benito Juarez High School around 2:30 p.m. in the Pilsner neighborhood, sending panicked kids running and ducking for cover.

One male victim was declared dead on arrival at a local hospital, while another teen boy was in a “very, very critial condition,” according to Chicago Fire Department and undergoing “traumatic arrest,” according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The Fire Department said both boys had been shot in the head and later announced he had died, according to WBBM News radio.

Two other teens, a boy and a girl, suffered non life-threatening injuries.

The outlet reported that the assailants fled the scene.

One student told the newspaper that he heard the gunfire pop while waiting for his father to pick him up.

“It was crazy,” he said. “I heard two shots and then everyone started running and went inside.”

The school had hosted a special holiday showcase earlier in the day that featured free hams and a performance by its dance team, according to the Sun-Times.

Officials locked down the campus before issuing an all-clear at 3:30 p.m.
