Weird But True

I’ve been getting mysterious takeout orders sent to my home for years — I’m terrified

This sinister stalker is providing food for thought.

A British woman is living in terror, bombarded by unwanted takeout orders almost every night for the past two-and-a-half years.

Diane Maines, who hails from Hepburn, England, says she can sometimes receive 30 takeout orders in a single night, with the meals seemingly sent by a creep keeping a close eye on her home

“I have no idea why this is happening,” the 58-year-old told North News & Pictures of the mystery, reminiscent of “The Watcher,” but with a whole lot more food thrown in.

“It’s getting frightening and I’m terrified to be in my own home,” the shaken customer service agent added. “I don’t know what to do. I keep myself to myself and only have a small circle of friends, so I don’t know who would want to do this to me.”

Maines — who lives alone and has no known enemies — says she first started receiving the meals back in April 2020.

At first, drivers would drop off five or six orders from different restaurants over the course of an evening, before the frequency of the food deliveries began to escalate.

“It was constant, with 20 or 30 orders coming a night, totaling thousands of pounds worth of food being delivered to my door,” Maines, who works as a customer service agent, recalled.

After being bombarded with the mystery meals, she contacted the cops in a bid to find out who was behind the bizarre act.

An investigation uncovered that the takeout — which comes from restaurants all around the local area — is usually ordered through the food delivery app, Just Eat.

The orders are all “cash on delivery” and have different names, accounts and phone numbers attached to them.

Maines says she was relieved when the orders recently stopped arriving at her home several months ago — but she was lulled into a false sense of security.

“It can go a few months without happening but then last Friday (Dec. 9) I had another six sent to me,” she stated. “I’ve had to change my life to try and deal with this and I just want it to stop.”

Police are pleading for public assistance to help solve the mystery, reminiscent of “The Watcher” — but with a whole lot more food.

“We can confirm an investigation was launched after a woman reported receiving a series of unwanted takeaways from an unknown person to her address in the Hebburn area,” local cops said in a statement.

“Officers are treating the reports as suspected stalking,” they added. “Extensive inquiries are ongoing and anyone with information which could assist the investigation is asked to get in touch.”

For now, Maines continues to live in fear and has barricaded her front door with trash cans in a bid to deter delivery drivers from dropping off the food.

“I feel like I’m going mad,” she cried. “It’s really affecting my mental health and sleeping. Every time I hear a car go up the street I’m anxious.”
