Jeremy Renner airlifted to hospital in ‘critical but stable condition’ after snowplow accident
Marvel actor Jeremy Renner was in “critical but stable” condition Sunday after running over his own leg with a snowplow in a freak accident.
The “Hawkeye” star suffered “extensive” injuries in Nevada “after experiencing a weather-related accident while plowing snow” on New Year’s Day, a spokesperson for the two-time Oscar nominee said in a statement.
The 51-year-old actor, also known for his starring role in the Paramount+ series “Mayor of Kingstown,” was airlifted to an area hospital near Reno.
Renner was losing a “serious” amount of blood from his Kässbohrer PistenBully snow plow injury to his leg, and neighbors managed to apply a tourniquet before paramedics arrived and loaded him onto an emergency chopper, TMZ reported.
A spokesperson for Renner — who is something of a local hero for his efforts to combat the elements in the area, from snowfall to forest fires — said he is “receiving excellent care” and his family was by his side.
The actor-musician has a home close to Reno near Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe, a 1,300-acre resort with “groomed ski runs for all levels, complete with seven chairlifts and three snowboard parks.”
Deputies from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office “coordinated with Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and Remsa Health to arrange for medical transport of Renner via care flight to a local area hospital,” according to public information officer Kristin Vietti. “Mr. Renner was the only involved party.”
The sheriff’s “major accident investigation team” is looking into the circumstances surrounding Sunday’s incident, Sgt. Vietti added.
The area — which boasts the motto “Life starts at 8,260 feet” — along with much of northern Nevada was slammed with a winter storm on New Year’s Eve that caused 35,000 homes to lose power, with thousands still in the dark the next morning.
“I have so much respect for Mother Earth, and Mother Nature,” Renner previously posted in an Instagram video as serious weather conditions loomed. “I expect to lose the fight but I’ll always give it my best shot.”
Renner — best known for playing the superhero Clint Barton, or Hawkeye, in multiple Marvel movies and a Disney+ show — frequently posts to his 18.1 million Instagram followers about his battle with the seasonal elements in Nevada.

“Monday morning pre-winter preparation couldn’t be more fun!!” he raved in late November of the precautionary measures before he took a break for some “fun” on his property.
The Post has reached out to Renner’s reps for an update on his condition.
Jennifer Schuricht, director of corporate communications for NV Energy, said crews have worked throughout the night and additional resources are being sent from Las Vegas and eastern Nevada to help with restoration efforts, the Reno Gazette Journal reported.
Schuricht said it was too early to give an estimate of when power might be restored.
“Our goal is to get everyone restored as soon as possible, but it’s hard to say when power will be back on,” she added. “Our goal is to get everyone back up as soon as we can.”
Meanwhile, in mid-December, Renner pulled out the heavy artillery to battle snowfall at his homestead in the Reno area: “Holiday preparations for friends and family,” he asked his followers. “What are your plans ??”
The Modesto, California native is somewhat notorious for volunteering to help his adopted hometown fight weather disasters, having launched a campaign to build a Tahoe fire station to “help fight fires” in December 2021.
“I’m actually building a station at the house in Tahoe because it is a hot zone for fires,” Renner told singer and daytime talk show host Kelly Clarkson when she asked about him being a volunteer fire chief. “I work with the fire departments up there, and they are pretty awesome. They are teaching me and helping me, and I still have to get some more hours in with them.”
On Thursday before the holiday weekend, he even tweeted about his handyman-helper side in a message hyping his upcoming project about “helping communities by reimagining unique purpose-built vehicles.”
Renner posted, “There’s no better way to kick off the new year than giving back to those who need it most! Don’t miss #Rennervations, coming soon to @Disney+.”
