The annual draft hints from Pete Carroll have begun.
About five hours before the NFL Draft began, the Seahawks head coach shared his first clue for what the Seahawks might do with their two first-round picks — No. 5 and No. 20 overall — Thursday night.
It started with a quote-tweet of the trailer for Season 4 of the Netflix show “Love is Blind,” which included people from, and was based in, Seattle and nearby cities.
Then, Carroll tweeted a link to the Kraken’s goal song: “Lithium,” by Nirvana.
The third hint involved simply a photo of actor Carl Weathers.
The fourth involved another connection to Seattle, with a video of Kelsey Plum — a Las Vegas Aces star who spent her collegiate career at the University of Washington — “launched” a T-shirt into the stands from ESPN.
And the fifth, with a sixth set to be revealed before the draft officially begins, featured a GIF of actress Jennifer Coolidge saying, “Show him the core of the onion,” which was a line in season two of “The White Lotus.”
It’s unclear when Carroll will release his final hint, but he revealed that a “special guest” will help.
Perhaps the final hint means a quarterback, since the Seahawks could use a long-term answer behind Geno Smith.
Perhaps the local hints mean a local player, who played at a school such as Washington or Washington State.
When asked by ESPN this week if there were multiple quarterbacks that the Seahawks would consider selecting at No. 5 overall, Carroll revealed that “there’s a couple guys there we’d be fired up about.”
Seattle’s finish during the 2022 NFL season — a loss in the NFC wild-card game — dictated their position at No. 20, but they also ended up with the No. 5 overall pick because of the Russell Wilson deal with the Broncos and Denver’s disastrous 5-12 record.
