Ex-Yankee Clint Frazier makes MLB return with White Sox call-up

Former Yankee Clint Frazier is getting another shot in the big leagues.

The White Sox called Frazier up from Triple-A on Sunday, putting him sixth in the lineup and in right field for their 5-2 win over the Royals.

Frazier went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

The former stud prospect was hitting .375 in 16 games with the White Sox’s Triple-A affiliate in Charlotte while hitting seven home runs.

Frazier, who spent 2022 with the Cubs organization and played 19 MLB games last season, joined the Rangers in January.

After spending time in Triple-A, Frazier and the Rangers agreed to part ways on April 24, and he quickly latched on with the struggling White Sox.

Frazier, 28, hasn’t enjoyed much success since being selected No. 5 overall by Cleveland in the 2013 MLB Draft.

He fell short of the lofty expectations set for him with the Yankees after being acquired in the 2016 Andrew Miller trade, after which Yankees general manager Brian Cashman called Frazier’s bat speed “legendary.”

The prospect hype following Frazier was real after a trade deadline deal saw Andrew Miller go to Cleveland in exchange for Frazier in July of 2016.

In 2017, the Yankees denied a report that Frazier had asked to wear Mickey Mantle’s retired No. 7.

Frazier ended up wearing No. 77 for the Yankees and Cubs, but he’ll wear No. 15 with the White Sox.

In 228 games with the Yankees over five seasons, Frazier hit .239 with a .761 OPS, 29 home runs and 97 RBIs.

Frazier also dealt with concussion symptoms during the 2019 season after getting injured the year prior.

The White Sox have had a dismal season despite rather lofty expectations coming into the year.

They were 18-29 and 7.5 games behind the Minnesota Twins for first place in the American League Central division entering Sunday.
