There will be no more cherry on top – literally.
Dairy Queen is discontinuing its famous cherry-dipped ice cream cone for now, right as we’re approaching summer – and some fans are devastated.
“While it’s great to see our fans’ love for the Cherry Dipped Cone, we are always innovating our menus to showcase new and delicious flavors,” the fast-food chain confirmed to The Post in a statement on Sunday.
“Fans can keep an eye on our social channels for the latest and greatest on flavor offerings for the iconic DQ dipped cone.”
In another statement to Food Network this week, the sweet treat giant said, “At this time, the Cherry Dipped Cone at Dairy Queen is being discontinued.”
The ice cream shop’s cherry-dipped cone was once a staple treat on the menu – an ice cream cone gets dunked into a warm, bright red, cherry-flavored batter which turned into a hard shell when met with the ice cream.
And, it looks like the cherry cone has also been wiped from their website in a somewhat state of permanence. In a quick search, they seem to only be offering a chocolate-dipped cone and a churro-dipped cone, as well as their classic vanilla.
But even with those two options, some fans are distressed by the thought of not having their go-to treat available to them this summer.
“Dairy Queen is getting rid of the cherry cone dip I’m about to riot,” one Twitter user joked.
“Hearing that dairy queen is discontinuing the cherry dip cone is gonna be burned into my memory as the worst day of my life,” someone else typed.
“DAIRY QUEEN IS GETTING RID OF THE CHERRY DIPPED CONE???” another wrote. “Year ruined.”
Rumors of the cone’s demise first began on TikTok, when an account run by a Dairy Queen franchise Shelby Township, Michigan, alleged that once the dip’s supply ran out from their warehouse, it would be no longer.
“I don’t know when, or if its returning, but Dairy Queen has discontinued doing their cherry cone dip,” the employee alleged in the video, as they made one of the dipped cones.
The employee continued, claiming, “It’s already sold out in our warehouse, so once we deplete the inventory in the store, we’ll be sold out until further notice.”
The video has been viewed over 4.5 million times.
However, there is still a glimmer of hope for cherry-dipped cone fans – according to Today, the sweet treat has made a return once before, in May 2022, after being off the menu for a bit.
It has come on and off the menu over the past few years, according to the outlet.
And, unfortunately, this is not the only fast-food chain that’s making some changes ahead of the summertime.
In April, Taco Bell pulled their “Quesarito” from stores after it had been on the menu since 2014.
The once-fan-favorite consisted of a burrito wrapped in a ooey, gooey cheese quesadilla.
In March, Dunkin’ announced that they would be getting rid of their infamous Dunkaccino, which was a combination of hot chocolate and coffee.
But fear not – at least McDonald’s will be bringing back their Oreo Frappé for a limited time this summer after an eight-year hiatus.
