An apartment in Jay-Z’s former “stash spot,” which was mentioned in his hit song “Empire State of Mind” featuring Alicia Keys, has hit the market for $1.4 million, The Post has learned.
Located in Brooklyn’s Boerum Hill, the artist, born Shawn Corey Carter, lived in the 560 State St. building sometime in late 1996/early 1997.
It’s said that Jay-Z, 53, resided in unit 10B, however in 2012 he allegedly met the resident of 10B and told him his old place was in reality 10C.
According to the lyrics, “I used to cop in Harlem, all of my Dominicanos / Right there up on Broadway, pull me back to that McDonald’s / Took it to my stash spot, 560 State Street / Catch me in the kitchen like a Simmons with them pastries.”
During his time there in the late ’90s, the complex fostered a vibrant community of black artists, attracting filmmakers and musicians.
The rapper visited the building in 2019, where he said he felt like crying coming back there. In a video, Jay-Z reminisced about having a falling out with his cousin there because of the drug deals he was getting into.
He also said, he thought living in the building meant he “made it.”
“But I knew something wasn’t right about the things I was doing,” he said. “My conscious was alive. So I just decided to let that street life go and just really focus on music. This is what I love to do. If I had my choice to be successful — to be successful in the street or be successful making music, it would be making music.”
“So let me treat it like that and give it my all,” he added. “And when I did, it happened pretty much right away for me.”
It certainly did. In recent weeks, news broke that Jay-Z and his now-wife, pop icon Beyoncé, shelled out $200 million for a beachfront home in Malibu designed by Tadao Ando — one of the world’s most respected architects — whose purchase price broke a California sales record.
This particular Brooklyn unit, 3B, is described as a sun-filled duplex with two bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms.
Occupying over 1,000 square feet, features include a well-equipped kitchen with a center island and stainless steel appliances.
The open layout encompasses a living room, a dining area and a powder room on the first level, the listing adds. The primary bedroom offers a king-size bed and a large custom closet, while the second bedroom provides versatility as a bedroom, a nursery or a home office.
Both rooms are complete with premium soundproof windows. The full bathroom is located across from the bedrooms.
This unit includes central air conditioning and heating, and the additional perk of an in-unit washer/dryer.
A secluded 6,000-square-foot shared courtyard offers an outdoor kitchen with sinks, a refrigerator and a gas-fired barbecue pit. At night, gas lamps illuminate the area.
Zoe Saaf, Gina Giles, Kait Saaf and Cheryl Nielsen-Saaf of Corcoran hold the listing.
