Introducing the new Mr. and Mrs. Mark Sanchez.
The former Jets quarterback married his longtime love, “Shameless” actress Perry Mattfeld, over Memorial Day weekend in Oaxaca, Mexico, one year after getting engaged.
“Our union is a celebration of our special bond in front of friends and family, and a promise to each other and those closest to us to be strong and supportive towards each other in our future challenges, successes and failures,” the 36-year-old Sanchez told People.
The former first-round pick, who was drafted fifth overall by the Jets in 2009, wore a crisp beige suit for the big day while Mattfeld, 29, stunned in a custom Karen Sabag dress for the lavish celebration.
“It was really emotional and special for us,” said Mattfeld, who was introduced to Sanchez in 2017 by friend Scotty McKnight, who was a lifelong buddy of Sanchez’s and also played briefly on the Jets.
The couple swapped handwritten vows during the “emotional” ceremony, in which Sanchez’s son, Daniel, served as a groomsman and ring bearer.
“It was so special to be able to read our vows with him beside us,” Mattfeld recalled.
Sanchez, who currently serves as a Fox Sports broadcaster after retiring from the NFL in 2019, quipped how he “couldn’t turn off the tears.”
“Emotional is a massive understatement. It all hit me at once like a mack truck and after that, I couldn’t turn off the tears! Tears of joy, love and gratitude for getting such an incredible life partner,” the former USC product said.
Once the ceremony concluded, the newlyweds continued the festivities at the reception with more than 200 guests, including Sanchez’s former Jets teammate, retired center Nick Mangold.
“I went all the way to Oaxaca City, Mexico for @Mark_Sanchez’s wedding and this is the one photo I get of us. Brilliant!” Mangold, TK, tweeted alongside a pic of the pair.
G.J. Kinne, the head coach of Texas State University football, also shared snaps of the dreamy affair on Instagram.
“Three days of celebrating Mark + Perry in Oaxaca !!” he exclaimed.
Sanchez and Mattfeld, who got engaged last May, are now readying for a honeymoon in East Africa that will include stops in Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, and the Seychelles.
“We are so lucky because our careers have taken us to many cities across the world, but we both have never been on a trip like this,” she said.
Before segueing into broadcasting, Sanchez spent 10 seasons in the NFL, beginning with the Jets from 2009 to 2013.
Other stops for Sanchez included the Eagles, Broncos, Cowboys and Bears.
He last played for Washington during the 2018 season.
