Stephen A. Smith jokes about Monica McNutt dressing ‘for the nightlife’ on morning TV
“First Take” or “Fashion Police?”
It appeared to be the latter for Stephen A. Smith on Thursday as he kicked off the ESPN series with some styling commentary for co-analysts Jay Williams and Monica McNutt.
“I don’t know what the hell is going on with my boy Jay Williams, he picks the day that I’m outside the studio to put on the best outfit he’s had all year long,” Smith exclaimed of Williams, who dressed in a dark three-piece suit.
Smith then turned his attention to McNutt, who stunned in a vibrant green dress for Thursday’s show.
“Monica McNutt, I’ve got news for you. You’ve done a great job, you’re a great analyst, you’re phenomenal, but I don’t know what’s up with all of these outfits where you’re acting like you dressed for the nightlife when you are on morning television,” Smith commented.
The remarks left Williams and McNutt in stitches, as the duo couldn’t stop smiling and laughing as Smith concluded his introduction.
Once the show got underway, Smith — who was filming remotely from Denver ahead of the Nuggets’ Game 1 win against the Heat in the NBA Finals — requested a close-up of co-host Molly Qerim’s ensemble.
“She has worn that a few times this year,” Smith said of Qerim’s rose gold-like ensemble.
Though Qerim verified Smith’s remarks, stating “I have worn it a million times,” she elaborated on why she recycles outfits.
“I’m a woman of the people! This is what I want people to know, I don’t wear a new outfit every day cause I’m regular, I’m normal, and I repeat outfits,” she said.
Both Qerim and McNutt frequently share snaps of their styles on social media.
Earlier this week, McNutt rocked a citrus-shade sheath in an Instagram post from New York, to which Qerim complimented, “Sunshine!!!”
