Guy in stolen school bus leads cops on wild, two-state chase, dramatic dashcam video shows

A driver in a stolen school bus led cops on a wild, 80-mile high-speed chase across two states before he crashed in Indiana — and it was all caught on dramatic dashcam video.

Police said the bus was stolen from Cincinnati, Ohio last week and soon had cops from multiple agencies tailing behind for more than 50 minutes as it barreled erratically down Interstate 74, footage aired Wednesday by WXIX-TV shows.

At one point the bus, which police said was not carrying any passengers, strikes the curb and nearly topples over — but veers back onto the road and races on with about a half-dozen cops following close behind.

The May 30 chase crossed the Indiana state line and onto State Route 9 in Shelbyville, where it finally careened onto the cornfield and bounced to a stop, the video shows.

Police converged on the bus with guns drawn and grabbed the driver — later identified as 32-year-old Chad Murdock — as he tried to make a run for it, the video shows.

Murdock was charged with resisting law enforcement, criminal recklessness with a vehicle, possession of stolen property and criminal mischief, the Indiana State Police Department said.

Police said he allegedly carjacked the bus from its rightful driver around 10:15 a.m. before embarking on the nearly hour-long chase. Cops had to deploy a tire deflation device in order to get the bus to stop.

Murdock, who police said could face additional charges, is due back in Decatur County Court on Aug. 28.
