Adam Hadwin’s wife reacts to golf security incident: ‘So many things to take in’
Adam Hadwin’s wife, Jessica, didn’t hold back on social media after the PGA Tour pro was tackled by security at the Canadian Open on Sunday.
Hadwin was manhandled by a security guard when he ran onto the 18th green at Oakdale Golf & Country Club in Toronto to celebrate his good friend Nick Taylor, who made history as the first Canadian to win the RBC Canadian Open in 69 years.
After Hadwin’s champagne shower plan was foiled, Jessica took to Instagram and Twitter to reveal that he is on the mend after the tackle — and trolled the Canadian pro in a number of posts.
“Sorry to leave y’all hanging, had to get the toddler ready for bed,” Jessica wrote on Twitter, referring to the couple’s 3-year-old daughter, Maddox.
“I’m thrilled to report that @ahadwingolf is still among the land of the living and in true Canadian form, apologized to the security guard for being tackled.”
The 35-year-old Hadwin sprinted to Taylor while spraying a champagne bottle after Taylor’s incredible 72-foot putt to eagle the fourth playoff hole and claim victory.
Security at the tournament — which began two days after the bombshell news of the PGA Tour-LIV Golf merger — appeared to mistake Hadwin for a fan at the moment.
“Omg I can’t handle these different angles,” Jessica wrote in a separate tweet, including a slow-motion angle of her husband being tackled by security.
“The security guard’s laser focus on his target. Adam’s commitment to the giant bottle of champagne. So many things to take in with every new POV.”
In another post on her Instagram Story, Jessica added, “Also to everyone in my messages, he is alive and (maybe) well!”
It did not appear as if Hadwin was injured.
The nurse practitioner joked about the now-viral moment in a series of tweets and exchanges with users.
Jessica shared a meme of a monkey on a flip phone and wrote: “Me ready to call Adam and ask why he is looking at someone else so much like that.”
When someone replied, “Security on 18 just tackled Adam on your behalf lol,” Jessica responded, “What can I say. I’ve got connections.”
Toronto sports reporter Kayla Grey shared a video of Hadwin being tackled on Twitter with the caption: “Security is TOIGHT at the Canadian Open.”
Jessica responded to the tweet with an emoji that read, “Get my lawyer on the phone!”
Hadwin also had fun with the tackle on Twitter.
“Put it in the Louvre!” he wrote, including a photo of the tackle.
Panthers wide receiver Adam Thielen tweeted: “@ahadwingolf did ask me what it feels like to get tackled for a living, well here ya go haha.”
Hadwin replied, “I think I’ll stick to golf!”
