Johnny Depp gives $200K to charity after $1M Amber Heard trial win
He’s got Depp pockets.
Actor Johnny Depp, 60, was praised by the Make a Film Foundation Wednesday after the actor made a $200,000 contribution to the organization, which grants critically and terminally ill kids the opportunity to make documentaries and short films and with actors.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star is “one of the most generous people we’ve ever worked with,” a representative for the organization told TMZ.
According to the news outlet, much of the money will go toward production costs for films with price tags of $25,000 to $35,000 and documentaries that range from $3,000 to $5,000.
Depp’s sizable donation comes from the $1 million he was awarded in his highly publicized defamation trial last year against ex-wife Amber Heard.
Make a Film is not the only charity benefitting from Depp’s courtroom victory.
The “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” star will give an equal amount of money to the Painted Turtle, Red Feather, Tetiaroa Society and the Amazonia Fund Alliance, according to news reports.
The Post reached out to Depp for comment.
“Mr. Depp’s generosity is overwhelming and we are honored to be among these amazing organizations that he supports,” said Tetiaroa Society executive director Frank Murphy. “His contribution will help Tetiaroa Society in its work to protect Tetiaroa, support indigenous voices across the Pacific and advance ocean-based solutions to climate change.”
Joe Seidenberg, the executive director of Red Feather, also praised Depp, saying that the actor’s donation will “help to address housing disparities for Native Americans.”
Both Depp and Heard have slowly returned to the spotlight after their courtroom showdown.
In May, Depp made waves at the Cannes Film Festival, where he promoted his new film “Jeanne du Barry” and received a seven-minute standing ovation.
The actor later told reporters in a fiery speech that he had no use for Hollywood after the industry “boycotted” him.
Heard is expected to appear at the 69th Taormina Film Festival in Sicily, Italy, on June 24 to promote her new film “In the Fire,” following rumors that the “Aquaman” star had quit acting after she relocated to Spain this spring.
