Man found with fatal stab wounds on NYC train survived hate crime on Bronx subway last year: sources

The man found with fatal stab wounds inside a Manhattan subway car Saturday morning survived a previous hate crime when he was attacked on a Bronx subway just a year ago, law enforcement sources told The Post.

Tavon Silver, 32, was discovered unconscious aboard a southbound 4 train that had just reached the 14th Street/Union Square station early Saturday and later pronounced dead, according to police.

He was also stabbed last year in a homophobic attack, sources said.

Silver, of the Bronx, was stabbed in the arm in June 2022 while riding a Bronx subway as the suspect hurled gay slurs, the NYPD said last year.

The 2022 attack took place on a northbound 2 train as Silver approached the 3rd Avenue-149th Street station in Melrose, the NYPD said last year.

Days after he was stabbed, Silver recounted the ordeal in an interview with Fox 5.

He told the station he and his fiancé were riding the train and blasting loud music when a man, later identified by police as 52-year-old Runadieo Jordan, yelled a homophobic slur at the gay couple.

After yelling again, he said the suspect stabbed him.

“Next thing I know, like, I had a hole in my arm. Like blood was gushing everywhere,” Silver told the station.

“It was one straight cut, and he took a giant chunk of my wrist. He literally cut my wrist off. So, like, if you look straight through, you can see my bone.”

“He came walking by us as I was losing consciousness on the floor, bleeding out. And he just walked right by us, and he was like, ‘Here you go, you stupid (homophobic slur),'” Silver additionally said last year.

Jordan, the alleged stabber from last year, was due back in court next month, court records indicate.

During Saturday’s stabbing, Silver cried out to a conductor that he was stabbed before he lost consciousness, according to authorities.

It’s unclear if he got on the train already injured or if he was stabbed while riding the subway, police have said.

He later died at Bellevue Hospital. No arrest has been made in Saturday’s incident.

Before his death, Silver was arrested several times, including on charges of assault and robbery in February from an incident on a train at the East 68th Street and Lexington subway station, sources said.
